Introducing the 2023 Exia Media Summer Camp in Forest – an extraordinary opportunity for your children this summer! Our camp offers a one-of-a-kind experience, specifically tailored to enhance students’ skills in writing, script conversion, and video production. We’re thrilled to provide a platform where students can explore diverse topics and writing styles, turning them into captivating scripts and bringing them to life through short videos.

 

At Exia Media Summer Camp, your children will not only enhance their writing skills, but they will also gain valuable hands-on experience in video production. Each student will actively participate in the creation of short videos and documentaries, which will be uploaded and showcased on popular platforms such as podcasts, YouTube, and Shaw/Omni TV’s multicultural channel.

 

At our camp, we deeply emphasize the value of teamwork among our campers. By working together, students will gain comprehensive knowledge of the complete video production process, spanning from idea generation and scripting to filming and editing. This collaborative atmosphere nurtures effective communication, problem-solving, and leadership abilities, all of which are crucial for thriving in our interconnected world.

Immersing students in the rich world of Shakespeare's masterpieces, they will receive a an introduction to his renowned works. Through this exploration, students will discover Shakespeare's distinctive writing style, exquisite techniques, captivating imagery, and storytelling. To ignite their creativity, students will be tasked with transforming a section of the play into their own written piece, bringing it to life through acting and video recording. This process will empower them to create something entirely unique and personal to their artistic expression.

NATURE FRIENDLY LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

The Camp aims to foster well-being of the students by nurturing their emotional growth through a range of impactful programs. These include engaging activities like Poetry Slam, forest commentators, and Road scholar, all designed to provide a supportive environment for their emotional development and expression.

PROCESS OF THE CAMP

The camp follows a structured process to ensure a meaningful and enriching experience for all participants. Throughout the camp, students will engage in various activities and stages, including:

  1. Orientation: The camp begins with an orientation session where students will be introduced to the camp’s objectives, rules, and guidelines. This helps set the stage for a productive and enjoyable experience.
  2. Daily Schedule: The daily schedule for the camp may vary depending on the tasks, but typically, students will spend their time at a local forest school or park in Langley during the mornings, followed by activities at the Exia classroom in the afternoon. To ensure a timely start, parents are kindly requested to drop off their children at Exia Academy by 8:50 am. Transportation to offsite locations will be arranged using a chartered bus, and students will return to Exia Academy around noon.
  3. Workshops and Instruction: Students will participate in workshops and receive instruction on different aspects of scriptwriting, video production, and creative writing. These sessions will be led by experienced instructors who will guide students through the learning process.
  4. Team Collaboration: Emphasizing the value of teamwork, students will work collaboratively in groups to brainstorm ideas, develop scripts, and plan their video productions. This collaborative approach fosters communication skills, creative thinking, and the ability to work effectively as a team.
  5. Scriptwriting and Pre-production: Students will learn the art of scriptwriting, exploring different genres and writing styles. They will develop their ideas into well-structured scripts, considering elements such as dialogue, character development, and storytelling techniques. Pre-production activities such as casting, location scouting, and planning will also be undertaken during this phase.
  6. Production: This phase focuses on the actual filming of the videos. Students will gain hands-on experience in using cameras, lighting equipment, and sound recording devices. They will work together as a team, assuming different roles such as actors, directors, and camera operators to bring their scripts to life.
  7. Post-production: After the filming is complete, students will delve into the post-production process. They will learn how to edit their videos, add special effects, and enhance the overall quality of their productions. This stage allows students to refine their storytelling skills and create compelling final products.
  8. Showcasing and Reflection: Last day of the 2nd week, the camp concludes with a showcase event where students’ videos will be presented to an audience of family members. This provides an opportunity for students to share their creative work and receive feedback. Additionally, students will have the chance to reflect on their experiences, sharing their learnings, challenges, and accomplishments.

Through this structured process, students will not only gain practical skills in scriptwriting and video production but also develop important qualities such as teamwork, creativity, and effective communication. The process ensures a comprehensive and rewarding camp experience for all participants.

  • Parents are warmly invited to join us on the 2nd Friday of the Camp, from 1 pm to 3 pm, to witness and celebrate the remarkable achievements of our students.
